From the all-steel frames of the 1950s to the now hip retro-modern musings, Honda motor scooters continually have been a revolution of motor scooter evolution.

In the classic 1950s style, Honda motor scooters were designed after the Italian Vespas many of people romanticize as scuttling through Rome’s streets with rider’s waving at street venders.  Honda motor scooters of that time bore heavy, rounded molded steel frames capable of resisting impact, but consuming more fuel.  Unfortunately for Honda, the 1950s line only lasted until the mid-1960s when production was stopped due to low customer demand.

After a 25 year hiatus, the 1980s picked up where the mid-1960s left off; the superstar of the 1980s was the 1983 Aero 50. This Honda motor scooter model led the pack; it seemed almost every newly licensed teenager clamored to get one and they flew from showroom floors. The restructured body turned from the all-steel, round classic features into sharper, geometrically angular sleekness. The 1983 Aero 50 was composed of lighter materials that lifted the body load, cut production costs, consumed less fuel and made an overall smoother ride.

But not so fast...

...Or maybe just a little bit faster.

The 1990s took this sleek, angular and lightweight idea to another level. Because Honda motor scooters had continued success from its 1980s resurgence throughout the 1990s, customers began to demand more power and speed.

The demand for something more of a "muscle scooter" retooled the 1980s Honda motor scooter into a hybrid of a scooter/crotch-rocket. These newer machines were elongated, narrower and had motorcycle features such as dual-exhausts and double, recessed seating and the floorboard was slightly raised, giving it that "rebel without a pause" feel.  One could probably say the 1990s Honda motor scooter grew up into a more take-charge adult. It is definitely a big-boy's or girl's toy.

Honda motor scooters, right now, are recapturing a little nostalgia while continuing the trend of the last decade. A mixture of the some of the rounded 1950s features with the 1990s rocket-style is both sophisticated and bold. This new, ingenious fusion has lowered floorboards, shortened seats and raised handlebars, but the handlebars are slanted to a comfortable and slick feel. Even the color combinations add elegant exuberance. Alongside bold reds, regal purples, deep blues and effervescent greens are light creams, rich browns, earthy oranges and golden yellows.

What caps off the Honda motor scooter as a revolutionary machine is not something seen on the outside. Just as Honda enjoys a strong reputation for and devotion to its cars, its motor scooters are by no means lacking. Honda motor scooters are known for being as reliable, easily maintained and fixed, and efficient and powerful as the Accord.
